We are indigo & iris.
A beauty brand that gives a damn.
We create beautiful beauty products and donate 50% of our profits from their sale to different impact projects.
Our first product levitate – is an epic, lengthening, super-black mascara. We spent years creating levitate, focusing on perfecting the formula which is made with love in Italy. It was a no-brainer for us to leave out the things that are not needed – no animal testing and no animal ingredients. But to definitely include the goodies – coconut oil, ingredients that ensure your mascara is safe to use near your eyes and keep it perfect all day long.
Behind indigo & iris is Bonnie and Hannah. We are the cherry to each others sundae, a true example of yin and yang. Hannah Duder (right) is the CEO, captain of the ship, with a very sharp business mind she is making sure indigo reaches its potential and has a positive impact on the world. Bonnie Howland (left) dropped out of university at 18 to start indigo & iris. She is no longer part of our day-day operations but has a true love for creating anything beautiful, and helps our team out when we need new creative inspiration.
We are passionate about changing the traditional business model by taking what has been learnt in the past and applying modern ideologies that have merit. Change is life baby.
50% of all levitate mascara profit is donated to curing avoidable blindness in the Pacific Islands through The Fred Hollows Foundation.
Donating 50% of our profit is not a marketing technique. The reason we started indigo & iris was not because we really love makeup (although we do), it was not to make a shit load of money, it was because we really want to make a positive impact in the world.
The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ is an incredible organisation that works throughout the Pacific Islands providing healthcare to visually impaired Pacific Islanders. In the Pacific Islands four out of five people who are blind don’t need to be and a sight-restoring surgery can cost as little as $25nzd. We love The Fred Hollows Foundation because of their sustainable approach to development. For example, all the healthcare professionals doing the work are Pacific Islanders – it makes a huge difference when the doctor guiding your procedure understands your culture and language. Also, everyone sees the value in having your sight restored and the massive impact it can have on someone’s life, it is not just your sight you gain back but also your independence.
Lastly, we would love to tell you a little bit more about our baby, levitate mascara. We truly would not be selling this mascara if we did not 100% believe that it is amazing. It is a great mascara. Vegan and cruelty-free. One of the coolest features about levitate is that it is buildable, one coat is flattering and natural and the more you add the bolder your lashes become without ever looking spidery or weird. It is a super black and hydrating formula that comes off easily with makeup remover or a cleanser but doesn’t come off during the day. We are super proud of levitate and hope you love it as much as we do
